6th Open Days European Week of Regions and Cities

Brussels - Belgium – 6th – 9th October 2008
The European Week of Regions and Cities OPEN DAYS, is co-organized by the Committee of the Regions (CoR) and the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional Policy, (DG REGIO). The OPEN DAYS program in Brussels involved about 850 speakers from 41 different countries, including 27 EU Member States and Bosnia and Herzegowina, Croatia, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Turkey, US and Russia. They represent a large variety of regional, national and European institutions, public and private entities, involved in regional policy and urban development.  53 speakers were either Members of the European Parliament or national/regional Ministers or Mayors and more than 150 speakers come from European institutions, most of them representing different European Commission Directorate-Generals.

This communication forum has won a faithful following of more than 5,000 local, regional, national and European decision-makers who provide countless examples of economic achievement, social integration, successful regional cooperation, fruitful partnerships between local government and businesses, poles of excellence involving research centers and universities.
David Fisher was invited to give a master lecture to the Open Days, “Ecomagination in the cities of the future” and presented his vision of the city of the future, green and environmentally sound and his solutions for sustainable cities and development, more energy-efficient and less emissive technologies. The Dynamic Tower is in fact a revolutionary self-powered building, in which the design is essential not only for beauty but for technology and sustainability. Dr Fisher’s audience at the European Commission Hall was given while he had next to him  Honorable Ms. Danuta Hubner Member of the European Parlament, Mr Jussi Ilmari Pajunen Mayor of Helsinky, Mr Hadar Cars Deputy Mayor of Stockholm, Mr. Richard Barnes, Deputy Mayor Of London, and Mr. John Francis Welch Jr. Vice President Of General Electric.
