Lectio Magistralis to CNA - Confederation of Italian Artisians and small compagnie (Confederazione Nazionale dell’Artigianato e della Piccola e Media Impresa) in Emilia Romagna Region Innovation in building: sustainable houses

Bologna - ITALY October 6th 2009

CNA organized a special event to illustrate a case of excellent innovations in building, made in Italy. Senator Mario Mantovani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport and Vasco Errani,  President of the Italian Region Emilia Romagna, discussed about the innovations in building. As guest of honor, David Fisher brought to the convention ideas, suggestions, as well as some cultural provocations, related to his concrete experience in research and project management. The Florence architect delivered to the Government and to the Region a lecture on the cutting-edge technologies used in the Rotating Tower that is the first building to be completely constructed in a factory, opening the door to a new era of sustainable buildings.

CNA, the National Confederation for the Craft Sector and Small and Medium Enterprise, represents the interests of Craft Businesses, SMEs and experts in public and private institutions, in the Public Administration, and in political, social and economic organizations. CNA was founded in 1945 in Bologna and has developed at local, national, European and international level.

David Fisher words sound like a provocation saying that after generations where the trowel was a symbol of builders, it is quite offensive  to claim: “your symbol of being builders is now on its way to the museum of history as our homes will be built from now in a completely different method, just like any machine, aircraft or a car”.

It is hard to hear it in a region of such long traditions of construction with bricks and mortar.

On the other hand,  Bologna, the capital of Emilia Romagna, the region that host Ferrari, Lamburghini and Maserati,  the industries that produce the most sophisticated and famous sport cars, should be open to such a revolution.

It seems that “Fisher Method” was not seen as a provocation and the local constructors are speaking now with Dr Fisher in order to jointly develop the new approach that will make the future low cost residential buildings.
