Master Lecture at Tongji University

Shanghai – China - December 21st 2009
Master Lecture at Tongji University

After two events in Shanghai, where the Florentine architect David Fisher was invited to speak in the last year and regrettably and due to other commitments he was presented by his WSP associates based in China, he made it this time and gave a lecture at the Tongji University.

The Institute of Architecture and Urban Space is lead by the famous Chinese architect, Prof. Shiling Zheng who invited Dr. Fisher to present his vision of architecture to the future architects of China.

Prof. Yongjie Sha, Associated Director, introduced Dr Fisher explaining the origins of his project underlining that old traditions, such as the city of Florence can offer, can bring to a real vision of the future.

Tongji University is one of the leading universities “directly under the State Ministry of Education in China”. The university now registers over 50,000 students.

“It was a very interesting event for me”, said Dr Fisher, “for the first time to speak in a Chinese University and confront myself with the future architects that had very interesting questions (all in very good English) telling them about my international experience”.

The topic of the Florentine architect to the Chinese students was to consider above all, the economic and practical approach when they will design the new buildings of Shanghai. A message from Florence: “Design and style are important, but should be a result of logic”….the real mission of architects is to allow people to have better quality of life and therefore more sustainable homes.
